WELCOME TO ROOM 45

I am Ms. Spilker! I am your student’s 4th grade teacher!

I have been teaching for 25 years (all 25 years have been in the Medical Lake School District). I have a degree in Elementary Education/Reading and a Masters in Literacy. I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, and Title 1 Reading and Math. This will be a different year than we are used to, but I know we will be able to work together to  have a successful year! I want the best for your students and feel privileged to spend this year with them.

I have 2 children, My son, Scott, is married and lives in Seattle.  He and his wife, Holly, have 3 amazing girls: Madison, Harper, and Henley.  They are 6,4, and 1. They call me “Nama” and I LOVE being a grandma! My daughter, Shannon, works in a credit union and is doing amazing things. She and her best friend are starting a new chapter and are moving to Kansas. I’m super excited for her.

I have two dogs! They are dachshund mixes. Max is 6 years old and Winnie is 1.  They keep me busy but bring so much joy!

I have many hobbies and interests.  I love working in my gardens and yard.  I enjoy crafting and “DIY” projects around my house.  I like hiking, running, and walking. I like to walk my dogs when I can. I love going to Broadway shows and I like to spend time with friends when I can.

I am excited for this school year.  I know we are all a little nervous, too, but am confident that we will be able to work together to create a fantastic 4th grade year for your student.

Fall Conferences

We will be holding Fall Conferences on Monday, Nov. 23rd and Tuesday, Nov. 24th.  Please click on the link for Fall Conferences on the link page to sign up. Let me know if you have any questions.

Reading Log
The November Reading Log will drop tomorrow.  It is due on November 30.  Your student should be reading for 20 minutes a day and 5 days a week.  Please record the number of minutes read each day behind the name of the book.  Your student should continue to fill this out, but do not return it until the end of November.  Also, included in the Reading Log assignment is a Story Elements chart.  Bonus points will be given if that is filled out for one of the books read.  The Reading Log assignment can be found in the Homeroom (Core) google classroom.  (This is a picture of the Reading Log)  The actual log is in the Core classroom.

Scholastic Book Orders

When your students came in for testing last week, I sent a scholastic book order home with them.  You can order on line and have the books sent to your home now.  The current order is due Oct. 23rd.  I will also post a link and class code to the Links Section of my web page.  Your students have  a reading log that is due each month.  This could be a good way to get a book in their hands (and a break from the computer screen) if it works for you.
